About Us

Summertown Utility District

Our District provides clean, safe water to residents of Summertown and Northern Lawrence County, Tennessee.   We
have been in existence for more than 50 years.

The Summertown Utility District was started in the mid-1960s, initially with only about 250 customers on the system. The sole
source of water at that time was a single well and one storage tank.

Throughout the 1970s, 80s, 90s and into the 21st century, the District has continued to grow.

As of 2021, our customer base has grown to over 1,700 customers - a total of 5 wells, 3 storage tanks.  We are
connected to the Lawrenceburg Utility System and able to purchase water in times of drought or need for additional water.

The Summertown area continues to grow and is expected to grow even more over the next 20 years.   The challenge will be for the District to grow in a responsible and fiscally-conscious manner to provide clean, affordable water to the residents of the area.

The Utility District is managed by a Board of Commissioners, appointed by the Lawrence County Executive.  The Board of Commissioners meets on the Third Monday night of each month at 6:00 PM at the Utility District office located at 104 Shady Street.
